How to Get Your First Order on Fiverr: 7 Practical Tips for Beginners

If you have made a Fiverr account, published your gig, and now you keep opening the app again and again to check if any order has arrived, believe me, I know that feeling. Almost every freelancer goes through this stage. The profile is ready, the gig is live, but there is complete silence.

The good news is that the first order is the hardest one. Once you get 2 or 3 good reviews, things start moving on their own. In this article, I will share the practical things that actually help beginners get that first order. No fake promises, just simple steps.

1. Write Your Gig Title Like a Buyer, Not a Seller

Most beginners write titles like "Welcome to my gig" or "I am an expert designer". Nobody searches for these words on Fiverr.

Think about it. When a buyer needs a logo, what does he type? He types "minimal logo design". So your title should contain the exact words buyers are searching for.

Bad title: "I will do any graphic design work for you"
Better title: "I will design a modern minimalist logo for your business"

See the difference? The second one is clear, and it has the keywords buyers actually use.

2. Your Gig Image Is Your Shop Board

On Fiverr, buyers do not read first. They look. Your gig image is the first thing they see in search results, and if it looks messy, they will scroll past it without even clicking.

You do not need Photoshop for this. Canva is free and more than enough. Keep the image clean, use big readable text (3 to 4 words maximum), and avoid putting too many things in one image. Fiverr recommends an image size of 1280 x 769 pixels, so stick to that.

3. Keep Your Starting Price Low (Only in the Beginning)

I know this one hurts a little. You want to earn good money, and you should. But in the beginning, your real goal is not money. Your real goal is reviews.

A buyer will almost always choose a seller with 20 reviews over a new seller with zero reviews, even if the new seller is more talented. So start with a basic package of $5 or $10, complete your first few orders properly, collect good reviews, and then increase your price slowly. Almost every successful freelancer I know started like this.

4. Stay Online and Reply Fast

Fiverr has a filter that shows only online sellers, and many buyers use it because they want quick replies. Install the Fiverr app on your phone, turn notifications on, and try to reply to every message within an hour.

Your response time is shown on your profile, and a fast response time builds trust before the buyer has even placed an order.

5. Use the Briefs Section Every Day

Waiting for buyers to find your gig is a slow process. Instead of only waiting, check the Briefs section in your Fiverr dashboard regularly. Buyers post their requirements there, and you can send them an offer.

But please, do not copy-paste the same message to everyone. Read what the buyer actually wants and mention it in your reply. Compare these two:

"Hi sir, I can do your work. Please hire me."

"Hi, I read your brief. You need 5 Instagram posts for a clothing brand in a clean, modern style. I can design the first post today so you can check my quality before the full order."

Which seller would you hire? Exactly.

6. Never Buy Fake Reviews

This is very important. Some people will offer you paid reviews, or you might think about asking a friend to place a fake order. Do not do it. Fiverr's system is smart, and accounts get permanently banned for this. One shortcut can finish your whole freelancing career before it even starts.

Asking friends and family to share your gig link on social media is fine. Fake orders and fake reviews are not.

7. Over-Deliver on Your First Orders

When you finally get that first order, treat it like gold. Deliver before the deadline if you can. Add a small bonus the buyer did not ask for, like an extra design variation or the source file for free. Small things like this make buyers leave reviews with words like "outstanding experience", and those reviews push your gig higher in search results.

Mistakes That Delay Your First Order

A few common mistakes I see beginners make again and again:

- Copying another seller's gig description word for word
- Creating 7 gigs on the first day instead of making one gig really good
- Ignoring the gig FAQ section (buyers read it more than you think)
- Getting discouraged after one week and deleting everything

Final Words

Getting the first order on Fiverr takes time for almost everyone. It does not mean you have no talent. It only means your profile is new, and Fiverr needs some signals before it starts showing your gig to more buyers.

Improve one small thing every few days, your title, your image, your description, and keep sending offers through Briefs. Stay patient, stay consistent, and that first notification will come.
